Follow your Bliss

One of Joseph Campbell's famous quotations...
Many will say that they would love to follow their bliss but they have to pay the bills, don't have time, it's too late to change course, or any other number of excuses.
I would contend that for many of us, we don't really know what our 'bliss' is. Of course, it seems like it must be the greener grass on the other side. Certainly, the idea of walking away from a tough job and living in luxury seems blissful - but this is not what Campbell intended.

Sometimes we need to take a hard look at our life circumstances and make adjustments along our journey. The important thing is to be conscious. Make conscious choices. Embrace work that you love. Remember, even when you're "following your bliss", there will be tough sledding at times. This is certainly not a free ticket to quit.

Every person does indeed merit happiness and what is more happiness is baneful. The happier people there are around then even more people will find happiness . We owe it ourselves to perform on our own happiness and we owe it to society as well. Our own happiness will help others and inspire others to find happiness . If we are unhappy then we are likely making others unhappy as well (even if unintentionally) and it is extremely unlikely we are doing much to contribute to the happiness of others. Happiness is a Choice

The admirable advice is that we can select how happy we want to be. When you feel unhappy , you automatically assume it is due to a lack of something. You currently begin to desire material things hoping it will fill that void that you feel. Maybe it's a new car, or a new house, or a new job. You begin to anticipate these things, waiting for your happiness to attain. When the quick fixes don't arrive the unhappiness still exists.

The Happiness in the new year 2013

The year is 2013 and you are looking back on the past 10 years of your life... evaluating... reflecting... Did I make a difference?  When you know your life purpose and what you are here to do, your life has meaning. What was the meaning of the past 10 years of your life? Most people miss out on discovering their purpose, and this prevents them from being truly happy. We all want to know that we are unique, important, and special. But for people who are living self focused, and self absorbed lives happiness is elusive. Feelings of emptiness, or that something's missing is what fills the time that isn't occupied with meaningless to do lists, schedules, routines and busyness. Is most of this done just to keep the deep emotions away? To control every aspect of life in an attempt to control the feelings that they fear the most? Yet, these unwelcome feelings persist.
